Jaswant was already married and had two children before she married Hardarshan Kaur the mother of Yogeeta. After a loss in the Chinese industry, he returned to his wife's home in Pakistan.
She is the niece of the Indian actress Geeta Bali of the Indian cinema. Aditya Raj Kapoor is her cousin. She became famous with the film 'Yauwan' in 1973 and received seven films in the same year.
In 1974 she appeared in the film "Kunwara Baap".
Her marriage to Kishore Kumar in 1976 was unsuccessful and after her divorce in 1978 she married Mithun Chakraborty in 1979. According to the producer Shakti Samanta, she first designed Mithun Chakraborty on the set of "Khwab" in 1980.
